Tomato Rasam

Tomato rasam is a South Indian style tomato soup which can be served as a starter. It is prepared using Indian spices which makes it different from the normal tomato soup. It is a little sour and spicy tomato soup which makes digestive system active. It can be served as a starter or even along with your meals or just with some rice. It tastes different and delicious because of the spices used in it. It is a very comforting dish during winters.

Add coriander stems, garlic, ginger, cumin and peppercorns to a mixer jar and grind it to a coarse paste. Boil tomatoes and remove the skin. Grind it to a paste.

Heat oil in a pot and add mustard seeds to it. When it crackles, add dry red chilli, udad dal, hing and curry leaves to it. Now add green spice paste to it and cook it for 1 minute on medium heat. Now add tomato paste to it along with turmeric and salt and give it a good mix.

Add two cups of water and cook it on low heat for 10 minutes. Add coriander leaves and turn off the heat.

Serve hot tomato rasam as a starter or a part of your meal.
