Since today is Chinese New Year, I decided to make some shrimp with a wonderful flavor.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Place a pinch of each of the following spices on a plate:
curry powder
sweet paprika
ground ginger
Add the juice of half a lemon
2 tablespoons of soy sauce
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 pinches of ground sesame seeds.
Soak the shrimp (8 for 2 people) in this mixture in the refrigerator.
- 2
Prepare a wide pan with a little olive oil and cook the shrimp whole or sliced lengthwise as I did. Watch them, and once they are cooked (about 4 minutes), distribute them on small plates. After removing the shrimp, pour the marinade into the pan to heat it and then pour it over the shrimp.

Shrimp balls are from a found recipe, the sauce I improvised. For the shrimp, I'm giving the quantities in the original recipe but I made only a 1/3 batch myself. It's actually fairly involved and I'm honestly not sure it's worth the effort but I did like the results. Jon -

Real Chinese-style Shrimp with Mayo (Aurora Sauce) Real Chinese-style Shrimp with Mayo (Aurora Sauce)
Shrimp with aurora sauce is so delicious that my family enjoys eating it with an ample helping of vegetables. If you skin the cucumber, the color really softens the look of the dish and brings it up a notch, but you can leave the skin on. Be careful not to use too much sauce so as not to lose the crispy texture. You can also easily whip up the condensed milk for the aurora sauce by hand at home. []For the amount called for in this recipe, please boil down 100 ml of milk plus one tablespoon of sugar. If you overcook the shrimp, they will shrink and harden. Please be careful. 避風塘 (read Be Fong Tang in Cantonese) is a famous Hong Kong cuisine restaurant chain that has branches all over China. The bread crumbs used by this restaurant are so popular that they are called Hong Kong style even when used at other restaurants. I tried to emulate it, and I think I got fairly close. If you stir fry red chili peppers with this method, they are only slightly spicy. If you want it spicier, chop them first.
