Beef Yaki Shabu: Savory & Refreshing Pan-Seared Beef

Just sear the beef in a skillet! Then pour on a delicious sauce and dig in.
This is a simple and super tasty family favorite at our house!
Recipe background: This is my mom’s recipe. In our family, we call it 'Mama Yaki'! It takes less than 10 minutes to make, so I whip it up whenever I want beef but don’t have much time.

Steps
- 1
Sear the beef in a skillet. (Do not season with salt or pepper.)
- 2
After removing the beef, add water to the skillet and scrape up the browned bits with a wooden spatula. Simmer to reduce slightly.
- 3
In a separate bowl, combine the ingredients marked with a ☆. Add about 2 tablespoons of the pan juices from step 2 and mix well to make the sauce.
- 4
Slice the green onions. Arrange the beef on a plate, top with radish sprouts and bonito flakes, then pour the sauce over everything.
- 5
(Photo updated 5/24) In the top photo, I used myoga ginger instead of radish sprouts.
- 6
For a milder sauce, you can simmer all the ☆ ingredients together in the skillet in step 3. Use whichever method you prefer.
