Mix all the sauce ingredients in a skillet and heat until the sugar dissolves. When it starts to bubble, it's ready.

Even if you don't add cornstarch, the sauce will thicken more as it cools compared to when it's just finished.

If adding cornstarch before heating, mix it together with the other sauce ingredients.

If adding cornstarch after heating, dissolve it in water first, then add it gradually while stirring.
