Instructions:
Preparation:
Rinse the green moong dal and daliya under running water and soak them separately for about 30 minutes.
After soaking, drain the water from both the moong dal and daliya. - 2
Cooking:
In a medium-sized pot or heat the ghee or oil on medium heat.
Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
Stir in the chopped green chili (if using) and sauté for a minute.
Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy. - 3
Now, add the drained green moong dal and daliya to the pot or pressure cooker.
Stir in the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt to taste.
Add 4 cups of water and give everything a good stir.
If using a pot, cover with a lid and let it simmer on low heat until the moong dal and daliya are cooked through. If using a pressure cooker, cover with the lid and cook for about 3-4 whistles.Once done, let the pressure release naturally if using a pressure cooker. - 4
Serving:
Once the moong dal daliya is cooked, garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
Serve hot with a dollop of ghee and a side of yogurt or pickle. - 5
