Paneer 65 is a spicy South Indian appetizer and is a versatile dish that can be prepared in different ways. Paneer or Indian Cottage Cheese is cut into cubes or according to personal choice and marinated in spices, cornflour, rice flour, fresh herbs, lemon juice and yogurt, batter coated and deep fried to perfection. It is later tossed in a spicy tempering made with spices,cubed onions, garlic, curry leaves and lemon juice.Paneer 65 is a vegetarian variant of the popular South Indian Chicken 65 . Serve hot as an appetizer or as a side with fried rice in an Indian meal.

Cut paneer into one inch cubes. Add 2 tbsp cornflour, few chopped curry leaves,red chilli powder and sprinkle 1/2 tsp salt.Toss lightly.In another bowl, add cornflour, all-purpose flour, rice flour, Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder,orange red food colour,ginger garlic paste, cumin,coriander and garam masala powder.Add 1 tbsp lemon juice and 1 tbsp yogurt.Add salt to taste.Mix all.Sprinkle 3-4 tbsp water to make a thick slurry.Now add paneer to this batter and coat it well.

Heat oil in a wok and deep fry the coated paneer in small batches in low to medium flame till golden brown on all sides and crispy. Set aside.

In 2 tsp oil, sprinkle cumin and mustard seeds.When they sizzle,add minced ginger and garlic and saute.Next add slit green chillies and broken dry red chillies. Add curry leaves and fry.Now add cubed onions with petals disintegrated. Stir fry on high flame. In the end whisk 2 tsp yogurt with 1 tsp cornflour and 2 tbsp water.Turn the flame to low and let it bubble till almost dry.Add fried paneer and toss gently to mix all.Drizzle lemon juice.

Garnish with some fried curry leaves, chopped coriander and lemon wedges.Serve hot as an appetizer or as a side with fried rice.
