Smoked Pickled Herring Dip

My oldest 2 granddaughters love it. It's a bit sour but crackers, chips, and veggies dipped in mellows it out. To make the Herring less salty tasting change the water out a couple of extra times. You can soak it in milk also instead of water.
Smoked Pickled Herring Dip
My oldest 2 granddaughters love it. It's a bit sour but crackers, chips, and veggies dipped in mellows it out. To make the Herring less salty tasting change the water out a couple of extra times. You can soak it in milk also instead of water.
Steps
- 1
Take the filets and put them into water to soak. This will take some of the salt out of the pickled Herring. After 1 hour of soaking put on a paper towel and pat dry.
- 2
While the soaking of the pickled Herring is happening, gather the ingredients. In a bowl add the sour cream, mayonnaise, dill weed, pickle relish and mix well.
- 3
Add in the lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and incorporate it well into the dip. Take the Herring filets and put into a food processor. Blend it.
- 4
When the first pulse is done add some olive oil. Blend till it's a paste.
- 5
Add the blended Herring to the dip mix well. Serve, I hope you enjoy!!!
