Ingredients

  1. 4 slicesrustic bread (Italian loaf or ciabatta works best)
  2. 2garlic cloves, peeled
  3. 200 g(about 1 cup) piccolo tomatoes, chopped
  4. 1 handfulfresh basil leaves, torn
  5. 1 tingood-quality sardines in olive oil (about 90–120g)
  6. 3 tbspextra virgin olive oil
  7. PinchSalt + freshly ground black pepper, to taste

    Toast the bread – Grill or toast the slices until golden and crisp.

    Rub with garlic – While still warm, gently rub each slice with a peeled garlic clove for that perfect aromatic kick.

    Tomato time – In a small bowl, toss the chopped tomatoes with a pinch of salt, pepper, and 1 tbsp of olive oil.

    Assemble – Spoon the tomatoes over the toasted bread. Add chunks of sardines on top.

    Finish strong – Scatter torn basil leaves and drizzle with the remaining olive oil.
