Ginger Garlic Chicken

One of my favorite things to do is to wander through the asian spice stores here in Wellington (NZ). Considering this is like the least favourite thing to do for Mr.hubby, I opt to go on these trips when I am alone. It's just fantastic walking through the aisles reading all the various spices one uses in Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian and various other asian cuisines ... One spice that I picked up during one of my trips was the FIVE spice powder. It's a spice mix of star anise, cloves, cinnamon, pepper and fennel seeds. When you add the combination of some ginger & garlic paste to this mix with a few other ingredients you get one delicious dish :) This was a hit with my 4 year old!
Pair this dish with some asian greens like Bok Choy and a noodle or rice dish.

Steps

30 mins
  1. 1

Begin by preparing the marinade. In a bowl mix together the ginger and garlic paste, soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, oil, the five spice powder and some salt and powder. Mix together well and pour over the chicken drumsticks.

  2. 2

I went with drumsticks, you can also chicken wings if it's going to be a party appetizer. Let the meat sit in the delicious and fragrant marinade for atleast 30mins

  3. 3

    Preheat the oven to 200C

  4. 4

Place the chicken drumsticks on a baking tray along with the marinade and let it cook.

Welcome to my Blog The Eaterspot. My blogging journey began in March 2010. I had just relocated from the US, and living in Wellington, New Zealand was definitely a whole lot different from the US. The day after I landed here, I began a full time job, but I still had a whole lot of free time after 5pm. I was cooking a lot of new dishes from various cuisines so the blog was born to document my cooking for my friends and family to follow what we are upto as a newly married couple and to see what we were eating! Thanks for visting my spot!
