Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (about 180 grams); 3/4 cup sugar (about 150 grams); 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (about 25 grams); 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder; 1 pinch salt; 1/2 cup milk (about 120 ml); 2 tablespoons melted margarine; 1 teaspoon vanilla extract; 1 cup sugar (about 200 grams) mixed with 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (about 25 grams); 1 1/3 cups boiling water (about 315 ml)

In a bowl, combine the sugar, vanilla, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and flour. Stir with a spoon.

Add the melted margarine and milk, and mix with the spoon.

The batter will be very thick—don’t worry, that’s normal.

Spread the batter into a greased 9- to 10-inch round baking pan, using the spoon to help.

Sprinkle the sugar mixed with cocoa powder evenly over the top, then pour the boiling water over everything.

Even though it may look watery and odd, the water will be absorbed as it bakes and the cake will turn out moist. Don’t worry!

Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 40 minutes.
