Taisen's 5 bean chili

I am not big on meats . I will eat meats but I prefer non meat food. I have wanted to do a chili with nothing more then a variety of beans , spice and tomato. Surprisingly my kids and husband who are big on hamburger and such actually really enjoyed this. So we all were happy ! Ate this for 2 nights with no complaints. We did it with cornbread, but next time it will be salad

Ingredients

  1. 2cans of light or dark red kidney beans
  2. 1 canbutter beans
  3. 1 cancapellini beans
  4. 1 canmild chili beans
  5. 1 cannorthern beans
  6. 2cans of tomato sauce
  7. 1large onion, diced
  8. 1 candiced tomatoes or leave this out
  9. 2packets of taco seasoning
  10. 6to 8 tablespoons of chili powder ( you can add more or less )
  11. 5 tspgarlic powder ( you can add more or less or even use 2 or 3 cloves of garlic , minced or diced fine )
  12. 4 tsponion powder ( I like extra onion flavor, but you can omit this )
  13. 1red pepper flakes , red pepper and / or black pepper ( optional )
  14. 1block ( 8 ounce ) cheese . we use cheddar . shredded ( optional )
  15. 1small purple / red onion ( optional )

Steps

  1. 1

    Open all cans of beans. Drain juices. Add to crock pot

    Add seasonings. Chili powder, onion powder, taco seasoning. Mix well. Red and black pepper if using. (as you can see, I add a lot of spice because my family loves chili to be extra spicy) stir well

    Add in the tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir. Set crock pot on high for 4 to 6 hours. Stir every hour if your crock pot is like mine. Mine gets over hot so a lot of times I use medium heat longer.

    Before serving, shred the block cheese and dice onion as a topping. If making cornbread do this now or use butter bread.

  6. 6

    Serve with butter bread, cornbread or salad. Enjoy

I was a stay home mother for years, and loved it. I'm always interested in trying new things and try to get my kids to try things at least once. I don't measure a lot of things. I go by taste and need to work on that .... I use a lot of different recipes, enjoy looking at ones online and trying them . I tend to change things to so you never know. I haven't been able to cook much for a bit , but I'm hoping to change that soon.

That's great, it's pretty much exactly what I do to make nachos, just add a tin of corn and sour cream on top.
