meanwhile, saute peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and garlic in oil, covered, until beginning to brown.

add cream and seasonings, scraping up brown bits from pan. simmer until slightly thickened.

drain pasta and toss with peppers and sauce. sprinkle with parmesan, if desired.
