Homemade soymilk

This natural soymilk recipe will give you about a gallon. The great thing about making your own is that you know exactly what goes in it, has no preservatives and you can even make tofu from this same milk if you save some sugar free. You get the nutritious Okara left over and can make an infinity of dishes with it. In my country 1lb of soybeans is 69c and I used to buy my gallons of milk for $5.00. Its less expensive and healthier. Give it a try!

Steps

1 hour 30 mins
  1. 1

Soak the beans in water overnight (or just 8 hours). About four fingers covering the beans. These will absorb the water and double in size.

  2. 2

Discard the water and wash the beans thoroughly.

  3. 3

Add 1 cup of soy beans in a blender with 3 cups of water (if you want a denser milk you can add only 2 cups). Blend for about 2 minutes.

  4. 4

You will now strain the soybean mixture through a cheese cloth over a large pot (very large since it will make you a gallon)

  5. 5

Once you strain the mixture, you will need to squeeze the remaining liquid out of the soybean mixture.

  6. 6

The remaining pulp is called okara, save it since you can make a wide variety of healthy dishes with this.

  7. 7

You will now repeat steps 3 through 6 until youre done blending and straining the soybeans.

  8. 8

Once you have the raw milk, you will need to take it to a boil and then boil it for about 2 minutes stirring constantly. The milk will raise like dairy milk so its important to keep an eye on it.

  9. 9

    Let the milk chill completely.

  10. 10

Add sugar and vanilla extract to taste and enjoy this delicious, natural soy milk!!
