Ingredients

  1. 5Crabs approx 750 gms
  2. 3 tbspsCoconut oil
  3. 1 tspfennel seeds
  4. 1 tspCumin seeds
  5. 1 tspPeppercorns
  6. 2onion sliced
  7. 1 tbspginger garlic paste
  8. 2tomatoes chopped
  9. 1 tspturmeric powder
  10. 1 tspCoriander powder
  11. 1 tspChilli powder
  12. 1 tbspgrated coconut
  13. 2 tbspspoppy seeds
  14. 6whole cashewnuts
  15. 2cardamom
  16. 3cloves
  17. 1small cinnamon stick
  18. 1bay leaf
  19. 2 cupswater
  20. to tasteSalt
  21. 1 sprigfried curry leaves

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat 2 tbsps coconut oil, add fennel seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns and saute for a min.

    Add sliced onions and saute for 2 mins.

  3. 3

    Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.

  4. 4

    Add chopped tomatoes and saute till it turns soft and mushy

  5. 5

    Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, salt to taste, mix well and saute for a min.

  6. 6

    Add ¼ cup water, cover the pan and cook for 1-2 mins.

  7. 7

    Let the masala cool down, add them to a grinder cup, add grated coconut, poppy seeds, cashewnuts and grind them into a smooth paste.

    Heat 1 tbsp coconut oil, add cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and bay leaf and saute for a min

  9. 9

    Add the paste, stir continously and cook for 2 mins.

  10. 10

    Add 1-1½ cups water, stir well blending the masalas well with water.

  11. 11

    Add the cleaned Crabs and mix well.

  12. 12

    Bring it to a boil, cover the pan and cook for about 15 mins. Adjust the gravy consistency as per your requirement.

    Garnish with fried curry leaves and take off the heat.
