Ingredients

40--50 minute
5-6 servings
  1. 5 cupsbasmati rice, soaked for 45 minutes
  2. 1kg, Chicken on bones, cut into medium size pieces
  3. 1 & 1/2 cup ripe mangoes, finely chopped
  4. 350 gram thick yogurt
  5. 2 teaspoonlarge onions, finely chopped
  6. 1 teaspoonturmeric
  7. 2 teaspoons coriander powder
  8. 2 teaspoons garam masala powder
  9. 2 lemonsJuice
  10. to tasteSalt
  11. as neededWater
  12. 6-7 tablespoonsoil
  13. Grind to a coarse masala paste
  14. 1& ½ cup raw mangoes, roughly chopped
  15. 1/4 cup garlic cloves
  16. 2&1/2 inches ginger piece
  17. 8-10green chilies
  18. Whole Spices:
  19. 2 inchescinnamon stick
  20. 8cloves
  21. 8-10green cardamoms
  22. 2bay leaves
  23. 1 teaspoon, black peppercorns
  24. 2 teaspoons cumin seed
  25. For Layering:
  26. 4-5green chilies, slit
  27. 3/4 cup coriander leaves, very finely chopped
  28. 1/3 cup mint leaves
  29. 1/2 cupbrown onions
  30. 1/3 cup Saffron soaked milk
  31. 100ml, melted ghee

Steps

    Clean, wash, and drain the chicken pieces. Marinate the chicken with turmeric powder and salt. Heat oil in a large pan. Add the wholes spices and fry for few seconds. Add the chopped onions & salt and saute until translucent. Add the marinated chicken pieces and sauté on high for 4 minutes. Add the prepared paste and sauté on high for another 3-4 minutes. Add the spice powders- turmeric, coriander powder, & garam masala powder.

    Once the chicken is done, sprinkle some ghee over the chicken masala. Sprinkle coriander leaves and mint leaves along with slit chilies and fried onions.

    Add curd and mix until blended well. Add the chopped mangoes and lemon juice. Mix well. Cover and cook until the chicken is done. In a large pan or handi add enough water and bring it a boil. Add rice and few drops of lemon juice along with salt. Cook rice until done.

    Gently spread cooked rice over the prepared chicken masala. Top it with saffron milk and pour ghee. Cover it with a tight lid and keep it on simmer for 30 minutes. Switch off the heat and let it stand for few minutes. Mango chicken biryani is ready to served. Serve hot with raita of your choice.
