Growing up we ate mandazi almost everyday during breakfast accompanied with tea. It is still a common snack even today and it is loved by people of all age groups.
Steps

Mix the dry ingredients in a wide bowl. Pour the milk or buttermilk slowly into the flour mixture as you knead to form a soft dough.

Let the dough rest for about 20 minutes. Knead for a few minutes and divide into 4 big balls.

Take one of the balls and roll the dough. Cut to the desired shape. For mandazi with a fleshy crust, roll out a thick dough. If you prefer those that are hollow, roll out a thin dough.

Heat oil in a deep frying pan and fry the cut shapes for an average of 2 minutes, until golden brown.

Serve with your favourite beverage.
