Khichdi tastes batter when served piping hot with some pickles or dahi. Best ever food in case of upset stomach, bloating, constipation, fever etc.

Ingredients

30 mins
2-4 people
  1. 1 cupkolam rice (vada or surati) or tukda basmati rice
  2. 1 cupyellow moong dal (yellow lentils)
  3. 2-3 tablespoonsGhee
  4. 1/4 th teaspoonTurmeric powder
  5. As per tasteSalt
  6. Pinchasafoetida
  7. 1green chilli (slit)
  8. 1 tspcumin seeds
  9. 5-6curry leaves
  10. 1/2 tspred chilli powder (optional)

Cooking Instructions

    Wash the lentils and rice together 2-3 times. Let it soak in some water for 10 mins.

    In a pressure cooker, heat the ghee on medium flame. Add the chilli, curry leaves, asafoetida and cumin seeds. Let it splutter. Then add turmeric powder and red chilli powder.

    Drain off the water and add the rice and lentils in the cooker,. Mix well. Add salt as per taste.

    Adjust the consistency by adding water (water should be 2-3 inches above the rice and lentils)

    Pressure cook upto 2-3 whistles.

    Serve hot with a dollop of ghee. Along with some pickles and salad.
