Set aside the oil and broth. Toast the following ingredients: pumpkin seeds, peanuts, onion, garlic, serrano peppers, and tomatillos.

Grind the seeds and peanuts dry in two batches (so you don't overload the blender). Blend this mixture with 4 1/4 cups (1 liter) of broth.

In a separate batch, blend the other toasted ingredients—onion, garlic, tomatillos, and peppers—with 4 1/4 cups (1 liter) of chicken broth. Add the cilantro, epazote, lettuce, spinach, and radish leaves (or hoja santa) to the blender.

In a pot over medium heat, add the lard (or oil) and pour in both mixtures. Add salt and pepper. Cook for 20 minutes, stirring constantly.

Serve with your choice of meat or vegetables, and accompany with beans, rice, and tortillas. Enjoy!
