Ingredients

4-5 servings
  1. 3 tablespoonsTamarind pulp
  2. 2 tspPepper
  3. 1 tspCumin / jeera
  4. 1/4 tspMethi / Fenugreek seeds
  5. 2 tablespoonsToordal
  6. 1/4 tspAsafoetida / hing
  7. 2 tablespoonsOil
  8. 1 tspSalt
  9. 1 tspCurry leaves
  10. 3-4red chillies
  11. 1/2 tspMustard seeds

Steps

20 minutes
  1. 1

    Mix 1/2 cup / 125 ml of water and tamarind pulp.

  2. 2

    Dry roast toor dal until the raw smell goes and it changes slightly brown in color, add pepper, cumin seeds, red chilies, methi, salt, hing, curry leaves. and roast for 3-4 minutes. Allow it to cool down completely.

    Make a powder of the above-roasted ingredients.

    In a Kadai add oil, mustard seeds, let it splutter well add the grounded powder, turmeric powder, tamarind water and allow it to boil on a medium flame.

    In 15-20 minutes the oil will be separated...you can switch off the flame.

    Serve with steamed rice, ghee/ gingerly oil.
