Ingredients

  1. 1 bowlurad sabut
  2. 2 tbsp kidney beans
  3. 1onion
  4. 4tomatoes
  5. 6 podsgarlic
  6. 1inch piece ginger
  7. 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  8. 1bay leaf
  9. 4cloves
  10. 1big cardamoms
  11. 4-6black pepper seeds
  12. 1cinnamon stick
  13. 1 tbsp cooking oil
  14. 1 tbsp butter
  15. 1/2 tspcumin seeds
  16. to tasteSalt
  17. 1/2 tspred chilli powder
  18. 1/2 tspgaram masala
  19. 1/8 tspasafoetida
  20. as requiredWater

Cooking Instructions

    Wash and soak urad dal and kidney beans in water for 2 hours.

    In a small pan heat 1 tb spoon cooking oil. Add bay leaf and fry for 30 seconds. Add black pepper seeds, cloves, cinnamom stick and cardamom and saute for 1 minute.

    Now transfer soaked dal in a pressure cooker. Add above tempering in dal. Add chopped onion, green chilli, ginger, garlic and tomato paste in it. Add salt and 4 bowl of water and place the lid and pressure cook till 7-8 whistles. Switch off the flame. Let pressure releases automatically.

    Open the lid and cook for 5 minutes on low flame till it turn thick. Add butter at this stage.

    In a separate pan add ghee. Add cumin seeds and when cumin seeds splutter add asafoetida and red chilli powder and saute for 30 seconds. Add garam masala and mix.

    Put this tempering over cooked dal. Remove bay leaves from dal.

  7. 7

    Serve hot with chapatti or rice garnished with chopped coriander leaves and green chilli.
