Soak rice and urad dal in water for 3 hours. Transfer to a blender and blend to a fine paste.

Allow to ferment overnight. To the batter, add salt and carrot, mix well.

In a microwave idli steamer, pour about 2 tablespoons of mixture in each slot, cover and microwave for 4 minutes.

Serve with sambhar and coconut chutney.
