Steps

In a microwave-safe bowl, gradually add half to all of the milk to the flour, mixing well with a whisk to avoid lumps.

Microwave at 500W, taking it out every 30 seconds to stir, until it starts to bubble, about 1.5 minutes. Keep an eye on it!

Once thickened, add the cheese and heat for another minute until the cheese melts, mixing well.

If using a pot, mix everything except the cheese in the pot, thicken over low heat while stirring to prevent burning, then turn off the heat and melt the cheese with residual heat.
