This is your typical greasy spoon patty melt you can get from almost any random diner in America. Enjoy!

Throw your hamburger patty / patties on the grill, or start cooking them in a skillet.

While the meat is cooking, sautee the mushroom and onions in some ghee or butter.

When the meat is fully cooked, start heating up a griddle or skillet to medium heat.

Smear some ghee or butter on one side of the bread. Don’t get carried away or the sandwich will be too greasy.

Lay the bread on the hot skillet butter side down. Add one slice of cheese, your onion/mush mix, a patty, then another slice of cheese.

As soon as the bottom piece of cheese is starting to melt, flip the sandwich. It may not be fully toasted on that side yet, but that’s ok. Cook for a few minutes then gently flip again. Once both sides are toasted how you like it, and the cheese is melted, it’s done.

Slice and serve!
