Easy Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken

Ingredients

  1. 1.5 lbchicken thigh (breast okay too)
  2. 3 tbspminced garlic
  3. 3 tbspminced ginger
  4. 20 goyster sauce
  5. 10 ggarlic powder
  6. 3 gsalt
  7. 3 gground black pepper
  8. 3 gfive spice powder
  9. 3 gground white pepper
  10. 10 gsugar
  11. 1egg
  12. 150-200 gpotato starch, for coating
  13. Handfulbasil leaves
  14. 1 tbspSichuan pepper salt, for serving

Cooking Instructions

    Cut chicken into bite sized cubes. Add to a bowl with garlic, ginger, oyster sauce, garlic powder, salt, ground pepper, ground white pepper, sugar, and egg.

    Mix chicken with marinade and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

    Take chicken out of the refrigerator and coat each piece with potato starch. The chunkier the starch the better.

    Heat frying oil to around 350 degrees Celsius. Fry the chicken cubes until golden, then strain into a bowl lined with paper towels.

    If you want it to be crispier, double fry the chicken for another few minutes, and add in basil to fry right before ready.

    Strain chicken into paper towel lined bowl. While hot, sprinkle on pepper salt. And enjoy!
