Individual Apple Butter

My husband kept talking about Apple butter, and how long it's been since he had some. Well, we did have some apples that needed to be used up because they were softening up, so I decided to attempt my first time in apple butter. Now, it's a family favorite. I didn't have allspice, so I used my allspice in a pinch recipe.

Well, we did have some apples that needed to be used up because they were softening up, so I decided to attempt my first time in apple butter. Now, it's a family favorite. I didn't have allspice, so I used my allspice in a pinch recipe.
Cooking Instructions

Peel apples
- 2
Core apples
- 3
Slice and dice apples

Place in bottom of slow cooker Apple chunks

Spread apples even
- 6
In a bowl mix sugars, cinnamon, allspice, ground cloves, salt

Mix well

Spread the sugar mixture over the apples

Drizzle water over the apples, just enough to moisten

Stir well together and spread even again

Cook on high for 1 hour

Stir and spread even

Cook on low 9 to 11 hours

Stir frequently, spreading even after stirring while it's cooking ( I did 2 times an hour)

Now, add just enough water only as needed while cooking to prevent burning

Mash mixture when it looks like applesauce

Cook on low 1 hour

Spoon mixture in a blender

Puree Apple mixture, lightly drizzling water as needed to make it into butter

Put in container, refrigerate

A lot of people have never heard of apple butter before, so let me tell you it's super easy to make, a great way to use apples, and can be used in a million ways; on toast/English muffins, on pancakes/waffles, topping for ice cream, even a lower-sugar alternative for PB&Js.. or dip crackers in it for a snack!Sky's the limit!This can be made small or big batches, you can adjust the sugar to your taste.. so feel free to modify the recipe to your liking. I'm going to share the amounts of ingredients that I used for a small batch as pictured. I don't recommend freezing it but it'll last in the fridge up to a week.I recommend using a crock pot because this needs to cook for at least 8 hours, but it CAN be done on stovetop, just be careful to monitor it.Enjoy! Apple Butter is basically a super concentrated and spiced applesauce. It's smooth and creamy. You can eat it over bagels, English muffins, toast, pancakes, waffles, in oatmeal, in yogurt...whatever you can think up. It is so simple to make at home and tastes so much better than store bought. This recipe is for a small batch...a little over half of a pint size mason jar, which for us is the perfect amount to have on hand at a time without it going bad, but you can double or even triple the recipe if you'd like. I went on a rafting trip recently and on the way we stopped at this gas station on the way that had a cafe attached. I had this baked oatmeal that was outstanding.
