Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 2Raw bananas
  2. 1big potato or 2 medium sized potato
  3. 1onion chopped
  4. 1tomato chopped
  5. 1 teaspoonGinger paste
  6. 2 teaspoonTurmeric powder
  7. 2 teaspooncumin powder
  8. 2 teaspooncoriander powder
  9. 2 teaspoonred chilli powder
  10. 2 teaspoongaram masala powder
  11. 1 cupcoconut milk
  12. Whole garam masala-3 cinnamon sticks, 3 Cardamom pods, 3 cloves, 3 peppercorns
  13. 2dried red chillies
  14. 1bay leaf
  15. 3/4 th cup besan or gram flour
  16. Pinchcumin seeds
  17. Pinchasafoetida
  18. to tasteSalt and sugar
  19. 5 tablespoonsMustard oil
  20. 1 handfuldried fenugreek leaves or kasoori methi
  21. 1 teaspoonGhee

Steps

    Peel and boil the diced potatoes and raw bananas with salt

  2. 2

    Mash the boiled potatoes and raw bananas well so that there are no lumps

  3. 3

    Add 1/2 teaspoon each of turmeric powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, a pinch of cumin seeds, 1/4th of the chopped onions and gram flour.

  4. 4

    Knead the mixture well and make small balls out of it.

  5. 5

    Deep fry them in hot oil until golden brown.

  6. 6

    In a pan, heat a table spoon of oil. Add the bay leaves, dried red chillies, a pinch of asafoetida and whole garam masala when the oil is hot.

    Add the chopped onions and tomatoes with salt and saute for 1 min.

    Add the ginger paste.

  9. 9

    In a small bowl mix the rest of the spices with sugar and make a thick paste with water.

  10. 10

    Add the mixture to the pan and fry for 2 mins.

    Hand crush the kasoori Meethi leaves and add to the mixture

  12. 12

    Once the spices are fried properly and have become fragrant, turn off the stove and let it cool for 5 mins

    Make a smooth blend of the mixture

  14. 14

    Heat a teaspoon of oil and add the blended mixture. Fry for 2 mins.

    Add the coconut milk and simmer for 5 mins

  16. 16

    Add a little warm water if needed. The gravy should be thick and creamy.

  17. 17

    Add the raw banana balls and let it boil for 2 mins in the gravy.

  18. 18

    Turn off the stove and spread a teaspoon of ghee on top.

  19. 19

    Keep it covered for 5 mins. Serve hot.
