Ingredients

35 minutes
2 people
  1. 1 cupsplit moong dal (yellow). Wash and soaked for one hour
  2. 250 gmspinach washed and chopped
  3. 1 tbspoil
  4. 1/2 tspmustard seeds rai
  5. 1/2 tspcumin seeds jeera
  6. 1/4 tspasafoetida hing
  7. 1dry red chilli
  8. 1 inchcinnamon stick
  9. 2cloves
  10. 1 tspginger garlic paste
  11. 1/2 tspturmeric powder haldi
  12. 1 tspred chilli powder if you want more spicy, you can add green chilli paste or finely chopped green chilli
  13. 1 tspcoriander cumin seed powder dhania jeera powder
  14. 1/2 cupwater
  15. to tastesalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cloves, dry red chilli, and asafoetida. Let them crackle.

  2. 2

    Add washed and chopped spinach to it. Saute it for a couple of minutes.

  3. 3

    Once the spinach starts to soften, add turmeric powder and ginger garlic paste. If you want you can add chopped or crushed green chilli. Saute for two minutes.

    Add coriander cumin seed powder and red chilli powder and saute for a minute.

  5. 5

    Add the soaked yellow moong dal with water. Add salt as per taste. Mix well. Let it come to boil.

  6. 6

    Reduce the heat to medium and cover and cook the moong dal. Stir in between.

  7. 7

    After 10-15 minute, the moong dal will be soft and cooked. Open the lid and cook the dal uncovered for a minute or till the water is dried. The moong dal should be cooked soft but not mushy.

  8. 8

    Serve the sukhi palak moong dal with hot chapati, bhakri, paratha, chawal ki roti or with plain rice and gujarati kadhi.
