Ingredients

6 servings
  1. 1 kgChuck steak, 3cm cubed
  2. 1Flour to coat
  3. 1Cooking oil
  4. 200 gramsBacon, chopped
  5. 150 gramsOnion, chopped
  6. 3 clovegarlic, minced
  7. 1Leek, sliced
  8. 250 gramsSmall button mushrooms, quartered
  9. 3 tbspTomato paste
  10. 2 cupRed wine
  11. 2 cupBeef stock
  12. 2 tspFresh thyme, chopped
  13. 1Chopped parsley to garnish

Steps

  1. 1

    Toss the beef in flour to coat.

  2. 2

    Heat oil in a large pot- medium heat- and brown beef in batches. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Fry bacon and set aside with beef.

  4. 4

    Add onion, leek and garlic. Cook until onion has softened.

  5. 5

    Return beef and bacon- along with all other ingredients (except for parsley), bring to the boil then lower heat to simmer (lid on) for one hour.

  6. 6

    Remove lid and simmer for a further 30 minutes. Sauce will have thickened.

  7. 7

    Serve with mash potato and garnish with chopped parsley. Yummy!
