Steps

Dry roast lightly moong dal.Wash and soak dal for sometime. Pour ghee in pressure cooker.Add chopped onion and fry lightly.

Now add chopped vegetables like carrots,beans,peas, etc.Toss.Add the rice, dal, bay leaves, turmeric,salt and sugar to taste.

Pour water and close lid.Pressure cook 2 whistles and allow the steam to release after 5 minutes.

When done,heat 1 tsp mustard oil and sprinkle jeera and broken dry red chillies.When they splutter, pour on cooked khichdi and let it boil for sometime.Sprinkle garam masala.Serve garnished with chopped coconut and dry red chilli.Best eaten with pickles,curd, aubergine (brinjal)fritters, French fries.
