Ingredients

30 minutes
4 servings
  • 1 cupmasoor dal
  • 4 cupwater to cook dal
  • 4 tspcoconut oil
  • 1 tspcumin seeds
  • 1 tspmustard seeds
  • 2red chilli
  • 1string curry leaves
  • 1 cuponion chopped
  • 1 cuptomato chopped
  • 2 cuptender bottlegourd chopped into 1" long pieces
  • 1 inchginger finely chopped
  • 1 tspsalt
  • 1 tspJaggery syrup
  • 2 tspred chilli powder
  • 1generous pinch asafoetida
  • 1/4 tspturmeric powder
  • 3 tsplemon juice
  • 2green chilli
  • 2-3 cupwater to adjust

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    Wash and soak dal in hot water for 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add chopped onion, tomatoes, bottlegourd, soaked dal, turmeric powder, ginger and 2 cups of water in cooker.

  3. 3

    Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or till mushy.

  4. 4

    Take off flame and allow it to cool down naturally.

  5. 5

    In a big pan heat coconut oil, let splutter mustard seeds, add red chilli and cumin seeds.

  6. 6

    Add curry leaves, green chilli and stir.

  7. 7

    Add asafoetida, red chilli powder, cooked dal mixed veggies, salt.

  8. 8

    Add sufficient water, allow it boil finely.

  9. 9

    Check salt, adjust it, then add Jaggery.

  10. 10

    Bring it to boil for 5 minutes in low flame.

  11. 11

    Add lemon juice, take off flame, stir once and serve in hot.
