To make the caramel, you can do it two ways: First method: In a skillet over medium heat, heat the sugar for about 5 minutes until it starts to darken. Second method: In a microwave-safe glass or ceramic dish, add the sugar and moisten it with 3 tablespoons of water. Microwave on high for 3 to 4 minutes, watching closely until it turns the typical brown color of caramel.

Be very careful when removing it, as it will be extremely hot. Pour the caramel into the flan mold and let it cool. Beat the milk with the eggs and sugar. Pour this mixture over the caramel.

Bake in a water bath at 350°F (180°C) for 1 hour.

Unmold and try to let it cool before tasting—it’s delicious! You can serve it with dulce de leche, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or just with caramel.
