A simple and spicy healthy rice and lentil (green gram or moong bean) based dish ideally served for lunch and dinner. It is a spicy variation of simple khichdi. Usually khichdi is served with yogurt, pickle and papdam.

Steps

In a pressure cooker heat 1 tbsp ghee and add bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, cumin and hing.

Add onion, green chilli and ginger garlic paste. Saute for a min.

Add tomato, saute till they turn soft and mushy.

Add vegetables like peas, carrot and capsicum. Saute for a minute.

Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and salt. Saute on low flame.

Add rice and moong dal. Saute for a minute on low flame.

Pour water and coriander leaves. Mix well.

Pressure cook for 5 whistles on medium flame.

Serve masala khichadi with curd and pickle.
