Oreo truffles
This recipe comes from my childhood after school care program. I don't mean to advertise for the brands I name, these are just the ones that I have found to work for this recipe.
Steps
- 1
Crush Oreos to desired size using meat tenderizer or rolling pin. A small variation in size will help texture. Putting them in plastic zipping bags first will help keep the mess contained.
- 2
In large mixing bowl, fold crushed Oreos into cool whip
- 3
Freeze 3-4 hours, or until mixture is stiff but not completely solid throughout.
- 4
Use cookie dropper to scoop out consistent balls of mixture onto a cookie pan, about 1 inch apart. Note: the truffles will be very rich by the end, so consider forming small balls.
- 5
Freeze overnight. You want the balls to be as solid as possible.
- 6
Melt chocolate in microwave for 20 sec in microwave-safe glass measuring cup or bowl. Stir. Then melt for 7 sec intervals (stopping to stir each time), until completely melted.
- 7
Dip each ball in the chocolate using a spoon or fork. Work quickly: the Oreo mixture will start to melt into the chocolate. If too much melts in then the chocolate will seize and no longer be useful (but will still be yummy!) Place the truffles back where it was on the pan, or get a new one.
- 8
Freeze 1-2 hours until solid. Enjoy!
