Ingredients

  1. For dough-
  2. 2 CupsMaida
  3. 1/2 tspSalt
  4. 1/2 tspBaking powder
  5. 4 tspGhee
  6. 2 tspCurd
  7. as requiredWater
  8. For syrup-
  9. 1 cup Sugar
  10. 1 cupWater
  11. 2-3 dropsLemon juice
  12. 1 tspCardamom powder
  13. As requiredFood color (optional)

Cooking Instructions

    In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, and curd then add ghee.

    Add water and bring the dough together.

    Place the dough over the cling wrap(plastic wrap) and cover it and keep aside for 15 minutes.

    After 15 minutes, remove cling wrap and roll out the dough into a rectangle shape.

    Cut it into long and thin strips.

    Divide all the thin strips into three parts

    Now we will make it like a hair braid as shown in the picture.

    With the help of a fine flour solution, we will add both its sides.

    In this way we will prepare all the balushahi.

    Now, in a heavy bottom pan add ghee and fry the balushahi but not on high heat. This is the most important step while making balushahi. They must be fried on very low heat so that they are cooked until inside.

    Sugar syrup: Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and heat till the sugar is dissolved. Increase the heat and boil the syrup for 5 minutes till it is slightly thickened.

    Dip the fried balushahi in the sugar syrup for few seconds.Remember the sugar syrup should be warm at this point.

    Finally, serve designer balushahi garnished with a few chopped pista.
