Magwinya

Absolutely love these on a cold rainy day or a cold winter morning. Street vendors would sell them in the morning across the road but the chilling walk to go there just got more difficult as I got older. I’ve tried many times to make them but with no success. My friend Charmaine adjusted my dombolo recipe and perfected this easy magwinya recipe.

Ingredients

Makes 18 servings
  1. 3 Cupsflour
  2. 400 mlWarm water
  3. 10 gYeast
  4. 4 TBSSugar
  5. 1 pinchsalt
  6. Oil to fry

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Place all your dry ingredients into a bowl. Add your water and mix together.

  2. 2

I personally don’t put it into a new bowl with oil. That makes too many dishes 🫣😅😂. Just place a damp cloth over it and leave it outside till doubled in size.

  3. 3

Once risen, heat your oil and dip two tablespoons into the oil. Use that to scoop out your dough to fry (no need to dirty your hands🙌🏼).

  4. 4

Fry on both sides till golden brown. Place on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

  5. 5

Tip: (can skip this). I place my magwinya’s into a plastic bag after it’s drained on the paper towel for a few minutes. This ensures that soft texture and not too much of a hard crust.

  6. 6

    All done 😋.
