Ingredients

4 servings
  1. 1/2 cuptur dal
  2. 200 gmdrumstick
  3. 1big onion
  4. 2tomatoes
  5. 3-4red chillies whole
  6. 1ball tamarind
  7. 1-2spring curry leaves
  8. 1 teaspoongrated ginger
  9. 1 teaspooncumin seeds
  10. 1 teaspoonmustard seeds
  11. 1/2 teaspoonmethi seeds
  12. 1/2 teaspoonhing
  13. 1 teaspooncumin powder
  14. 1 teaspoonturmeric powder
  15. 1 tablespoonred chilli powder
  16. 1 tablespooncoriander powder
  17. 2 tablespoonEverest Sambhar Masala
  18. as per tasteSalt
  19. 1 piecejaggery
  20. 3-4 cupswater
  21. 1 tablespoonoil
  22. 1 tablespoonghee
  23. Handfulcoriander leaves

Cooking Instructions

30 mins
  1. 1

    Wash and soak dal for 30 mins, soak tamarind and keep aside

  2. 2

    Pressure cook dal with 2 cups water for 2 whistles

  3. 3

    In a kadai or pan heat oil and ghee add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, methi seeds and hing

  4. 4

    Once they splutter add curry leaves and onion and ginger fry till onions are soft and cooked

  5. 5

    Add all dry masalas except sambhar masala now add drumstick and chop tomatoes and cover and cook for 5 mins

  6. 6

    Now add salt and one cup water, cover and cook till drumstick is tender

  7. 7

    Now whisk dal and add to the veggies

  8. 8

    Add water if needed and sambhar masala

  9. 9

    Now let it boil, add tamarind water and jaggery and cover and cook for 5 mins

  10. 10

    Check seasoning and add chopped coriander leaves, serve hot with Idli or rice
