Ingredients

  1. 1 cuprice (washed and drained)
  2. 1 cupToovar Dal (arhar) (washed and drained)
  3. 2small Onions (Finely Chopped)
  4. 1Tomato (Finely Chopped)
  5. 4Green Chillies (slited)
  6. 1 stripCurry Leaves
  7. 2 tbspGarlic (Finely Chopped)
  8. 2Dry Kashmiri Chillies
  9. 2Cloves
  10. 1" Cinnamon Stick
  11. 6-8Peppercorns
  12. 1 tspCumin Seeds
  13. 1/2 tspAsafoetida
  14. 1 tbspChilli Powder
  15. 1/4 tspTurmeric Powder
  16. Salt (As required)
  17. 2 tbspGhee/Oil

Cooking Instructions

    In a pressure cooker, add toovar dal, rice, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt and 5 cups of water. Mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Keep aside.

    In a Kadai, heat ghee/oil. Add cloves, cinnamon, peppercorns, Red Chillies and cumin seeds and Saute on medium flame for few seconds.

    Add little more asafoetida, green chillies, curry leaves, garlic and onions and saute on medium flame for a minute or two.

    Add tomatoes, salt and chilli powder and saute on medium flame for a minute or two.

    Add the cooked rice-dal mixture. Mix well and cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve hot.
