Buttermilk

Maryam Abdulkarim Halliru @mims_indulgence
You might see a recipe that calls for buttermilk and you have non, dont worry because there is an easy way to make yours. Buttermilk can be used in many ways: for pancakes, waffles, quick breads or marinating a chicken. The role of buttermilk in baking is to add tenderness and lighten the batter. The reaction with baking powder/soda cancels out the sourness of the buttermilk.
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Stir the milk and lemon juice together.
- 2
Leave it for about ten minutes at room temperature and the milk will curdle thicken slightly. Your buttermilk is ready.

Buttermilk Pancakes
While watching TV, I saw a restaurant that served pancakes using buttermilk powder and it looked so delicious, so I decided to try to make some myself. If using plain yogurt, decrease the amount of soy milk or regular milk. When pouring the batter into the pan, form it into a neat circle so that it will be soft. Instead of baking soda, you can use 1-2 tablespoons of carbonated water to create a springier pancake. In that case, decrease the amount of soy milk. Recipe by keiO3

Buttermilk Grilled Chicken
From now on, I will grill my chicken ONLY after 8- 10 hours of marinating them in buttermilk! (Important: Don't marinate more than 12 hours in Buttermilk - the spices will start to leach out instead of in!)The spices / herbs that one adds to the buttermilk infuse the chicken during the marinating process and produce a juicy, delicious chicken that needs absolutely nothing more to enjoy (as in no need for any BBQ sauce!!)And: You can freeze the leftover marinade and re-use again.PS: If you prefer to fry instead of grill: Dredge the chicken in flour and fry them, in small batches, in oil / vegetable shortening heated to 325 F / 165 C (don't go above this temperature when frying chicken)

Buttermilk Belgium Waffles

Fluffy Egg-Free Cocoa Cake
I wanted to make a fluffy cake without eggs for my child, who has an egg allergy.I asked my friend who's a cooking expert on the amount of baking soda to use.I used a silicone mold, but you can use a cake pan. After adding baking soda and vinegar, the mixture will fizz, but don't worry. Once you add the ingredients, put in the oven quickly (within 10 minutes). After baking, the smell of the vinegar will disappear. As there's little sugar and oil content, it may be suitable for small children. Oil-, Egg- and Sugar-Free Easy Banana Bread
I modified a recipe from recipe author Ejima Miuta to suit my taste. The original recipe only used flour, a banana, and water, but I added raisins and walnuts, and increased the amount of banana to add more sweetness. The key is to mix quickly after adding the banana, and to preheat the oven. Since the baking soda is activated by the lemon juice, if too much time passes between mixing it in and putting it in the oven, it may not rise. If you're worried about not working quickly enough, you can substitute the baking soda for 1 teaspoon baking powder. I used large bananas. You can use more or less as desired. Recipe by Meifan

Delicious Classic Buttermilk Pancakes
Since it's difficult to find buttermilk in Japan, I came up with an easy alternative way to make buttermilk with lemon juice and milk as advised from a friend. Then I recreated the famous and popular pancake using this buttermilk with easy to get hold of ingredients. From the second pancake, make sure you continue to follow the procedure of greasing the pan, removing the pan from the heat and let it cool down on a damp cloth, and heating it up again. This way, all the pancakes will turn out very fluffy. Recipe by sc0c0

Cream Cheese made from Soy Milk!
I wanted to eat a delicious cheesecake even though I have a milk allergy. When adding the vinegar and lemon juice, the point is to [LIGHTLY] mix it in. Using a spoon, just mix it around 3 times and that's enough.Making the soy milk cheese with vinegar gives a stronger sourness than making it with lemon juice. Recipe by yushuryo

No Eggs, Oil, Dairy, Sugar: Raisin Bars
I love raisins, so I came up with a cookie full of them.Be sure to start preheating the oven from the start! Once you add the baking soda to the vinegar, it will begin to react, so when you mix together the liquid with the dry ingredients, it's important to get it into the oven as quickly as possible. You can swap the ground sesame seeds with almond flour if desired. Just almond flour is delicious enough, but using ground sesame as well gives it a deeper flavor. If you don't have many raisins (90 g), soak in apple juice rather than water to increase the sweetness. Lemon Buttermilk Pound Cake Loaf
What better time to have some lemon buttermilk pound cake; it’s LEMON SEASON here in South Alabama. The picture is just half of the cake. The long loaf works best for get togethers, easy to slice and divide.

Buttermilk Blueberry Pie
This is one of my favorite pies. It is a mix between blueberry, egg custard and chess pie. Not quite as sweet as chess. Don't let the buttermilk fool you. It makes a delicious pie. If you didn't know it was in there, you would never know. Great warm or cold.

Irish Brown Bread (Whole Wheat Soda Bread)
My favorite soda bread recipe so far! Hearty bread in just 30 minutes. Whole wheat and bran makes it heartier and a lot more flavorful than white soda breads. It's so good with butter! I like to add in caraway, and sometimes other mix-ins like sunflower seeds and oats. If for some reason you can't get buttermilk, use a half milk/half yogurt mix instead. This recipe makes one small, manageable loaf.

Easy Fluffy Buttermilk Chiffon Cake
I had some leftover buttermilk in the refrigerator, so I thought that I could use it to make a buttermilk chiffon cake. It came out successful. The cake came out very fluffy. It's basically the same procedure as baking a plain chiffon. As for hints, just make sure to whip the meringue until stiff peaks form and I don't think anything will go wrong. Don't forget to sift the flour. You can use plain yogurt instead of buttermilk. Buttermilk pancakes
I got this recipe from a youtube channel and it ended up being the best pancakes I've ever tried. Not just over the top sugar like most recipes, but fluffy with a good salt to it to add the savory to the sweet of proper maple syrup and butter.

Buttermilk
Double it up.

Low Calorie. My Quick Corn Bread
Corn bread originated in the frontier era in the U.S., when food was scarce and so corn flour was mixed with flour. This is very hearty and satisfying with the sweetness of the corn.Make sure to bake immediately after mixing the mixture with the dry ingredients. If time lapses before baking, the baking soda won't function well and the bread won't rise. Recipe by pogue

Buttermilk Pancakes
I’m not the kind of person who will buy buttermilk just to make buttermilk pancakes. But, if I have buttermilk left over from another cooking project, I’ll definitely whip up a batch of these bad boys. The effort to make these is minimal, so next time you’re craving pancakes, skip the boxed mix and give these a try. 🥞This recipe is from The NY Times.#Breakfast #Sweet #Brunch

Country-Style Muffin with Irregular Apples
These are muffins that I made to use up some irregular apples and ingredients that I had in my kitchen. They unexpectedly turned out tasty, so I decided to upload the recipe here.●When dropping the batter into the muffin cups, using 2 large spoons will make things easier.●You can use 1 teaspoon baking powder instead of baking soda, but using baking soda results in a lighter colour and a simple taste that lets the flavour of the apples shine through. Homemade Calpis (Calpico)
I make this copycat Calpis (Calpico) drink base a lot in the summer. Storebought Calpis is getting expensive, plus I can make this as quickly as my kids ask for it when I keep a supply in the fridge. Please dilute by 4-5 times the amount of liquid or to taste. I adjusted the sourness so that kids can drink it easily. If you prefer it more sour, add a bit more of the ● ingredients. You can make a jelly using this concentrate, the same as you would with storebought Calpis. For an easy to make amount (4 to 5x concentrate type). Recipe by miyuki12

Sage Brown Butter Biscuits
The brown butter is worth the extra time and changes everything for these biscuits. You can also really taste the sage. Cutting and stacking the dough akin to puff pastry and adding a good bit of baking powder really gives them lift and lots of flaky layers! Enjoy.

Kiwi & Cauliflower Vitamin C Salad for Beautiful Skin
Cauliflower & kiwi salad, filled with vitamin C which is essential for beautiful skin. I made this recipe because I wanted to eat them a lot together. It's been my family's favorite recipe for 10 years. My boys love it, too.It also helps to relieve stress.I recommend to keep the crunchy texture of cauliflower when you boil it.Mustard dressing is really tasty with the sweetness of the kiwi and sourness of the lemon. To speed up the process I use a store-bought tube for the garlic, but you can mince a clove of sautéed garlic instead. For 2 servings. Recipe by soyumina

Simple & Rich Tofu Cream Cheese
I adjusted a recipe from a macrobiotic recipe book to reduce the calories. As a breastfeeding mother, I am trying to cut the amount of sugar and dairy products I consume. I also recommend this for people with food allergies. This keeps in the fridge for 2-3 days.If you don't take the time to drain the excess water from the tofu, the cream cheese will end up smelling too much like tofu. In my house, we also use this to decorate cakes. Recipe by Amaguriguri

Best Buttermilk Fried Chicken
This recipe for buttermilk fried chicken is super simple and easy! Extremely moist and juicy, but has perfect crispness.#mycookbook

Pickled Red Onion (2 Ingredients)
This one is simple and tasty. I add this to steaks, burgers, and many more. You only need a tiny amount since it is quite sour. (Unless you're a fan of sour side dishes like yours truly, then you might want to eat a quarter of the jar in one go!)In a fridge, it lasts for months. Add more sliced red onion later, don't waste the vinegar! The second batch would taste sweeter and milder.

Buttermilk Buffalo
A semi-homemade thing that was really good... buttermilk again, I know. And the cashier at the grocery store asked me, “what do you use buttermilk for?” Uhhhh, what do I not use it for?

Creamy Homemade Mayonnaise
I'd been wanted to make a homemade mayonnaise to use it in a delicious potato salad or egg salad. I got a hand blender the other day, so I finally made it. I don't like the strong sourness in mayonnaise, so this recipe's taste is to my preference. You can use 2 tablespoons of either vinegar or lemon juice only also. You can use the egg beater, or a small blender instead of a hand blender. (It can be a lot of work, but you can use a whisk also.)Be sure to mix the oil at each addition or you may fail!! Recipe by Natsumi
