Basic Baking Mix

Ingredients

14 Cups
  1. 10 C.Flour, sifted
  2. 1.33 C.Milk, dry (non-fat)
  3. 4 Tbs.Baking powder
  4. 4 tsp.Salt
  5. 2 C.Shortening or unsalted Butter*
  6. Use shortening for extended shelf life (3 months). Unsalted butter mix must be used immediately or refrigerated for up to 3 weeks
  7. For small batches use: 2.5 cups Flour, 1/3 cup dry Milk, 1 Tbs. Baking powder, 1 tsp Salt, 1/2 cup Shortening/unsalted Butter

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Utensils needed: Extra large bowl, wooden spoon, pastry blender (or two butter knives), airtight container for storage.

  2. 2

    In extra large bowl, stir together: flour, dry milk, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    With pastry blender (or knives), cut in shortening* until coarse crumbs form.

  4. 4

    Store in airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to 3 months, unless made with butter (3 weeks in refrigerator). With each use, stir before measuring.
