Moong dal halwa is a rich dessert , usually prepared in winter as it is believed that, this delicious sweet , keeps the body warm . After continuous showers of rain, it was cool as if winter is around the corner. I decided to ma ke this Moong dal halwa sweet dish.

I took 1 cup of split yellow moong dal, washed and dried under the fan. Then proceeded to make halwa with homemade clarified butter (ghee). I could make an aromatic and colourful dessert.

Ingredients

  1. 1cup, yellow, split moong dal
  2. 1/2 cupghee
  3. 3/4 cupsugar
  4. 50 gmmawa/khoya/ milk solid
  5. 250 mlmilk
  6. 1 cupwater
  7. 1/2 tspcardamom powder
  8. 10fried cashews
  9. 1tbsp, chopped pistachios
  10. 1 pinchsalt

Cooking Instructions

    Fry the cleaned and dried moong dal in a nonstick pan on low flame. Moong dal takes 5 minutes to get brown.

    Bring the moong dal to a plate and cool down. Grind to a coarse powder.

    Heat 1/4 cup ghee on the nonstick pan. Put dak on ghee and roast for 3 minutes. Add mawa and roast for about 2 minutes to melt mawa and dal become brown.

    Add milk and stir well. Then add the 1 cup of water. Cook slowly at regular intervals to prevent lump formation.

    When halwa,thickens add roasted cashews and sugar and the remaining ghee. Add the cardamom powder. Cook further for 1 or 2 minutes.

    The take out moong dal halwa on a plate, garnish with pistachios and serve hot
