This is a Southern traditional drink that my great-grandmother made every Christmas. It is rich, fat-laden, milkshake-thick, and totally delicious!

This recipe can be halved, and fat-free evaporated milk can be substituted.

Ingredients

  1. 6 canEvaporated milk
  2. 6 canWater
  3. 10 largeEggs
  4. 3/4 cupSugar
  5. 1 tbspCornstarch
  6. 1/2 tspSalt
  7. 1/2 tspNutmeg
  8. 1 tspVanilla extract

Cooking Instructions

    Add water and milk to large pan.

  2. 2

    Mix sugar and cornstarch well. Add to milk a little at a time.

  3. 3

    Beat eggs well. Add to milk mixture.

  4. 4

    Add salt.

  5. 5

    Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture just begins to boil and coats spoon.

    Remove from heat.

  7. 7

    Add vanilla and nutmeg.

  8. 8

    Cool in refrigerator about an hour before serving.
