One of the easiest and most healthy meal, which can be eaten anytime of the day! This Chinese traditional breakfast recipe, is enjoyed equally by all members in a family, even by infants. As it is very easy on the tummy, porridge is also often prepared and served during convalescence from illness. A warm bowl of congee, is easy to make and serves as a nutritious and hearty breakfast in winters.

Ingredients

45minutes
6 servings
  1. 10 cupswater
  2. 2 cupsshort grain rice
  3. 2whole shredded chicken breast pieces(you may use thigh pieces if you like)
  4. 1 inchjulienne ginger pieces
  5. 3green onions finely chopped
  6. Salt to season
  7. 2 pinchescrushed black pepper to season
  8. few drops of soy sauce(optional)
  9. few drops of fragrant sesame oil (optional)

Cooking Instructions

    Rinse the rice several times using a fine colander to begin with

  2. 2

    Add the water needed to cook in a heavy bottom sauce pan to boil

  3. 3

    Add the rinsed rice as the water is boiling

  4. 4

    Once the water is on a roaring boil, reduce heat and add the chicken pieces

  5. 5

    Now add the salt and pepper

  6. 6

    Mix well and cook covered for atleast 30 minutes, as the porridge needs to thicken

  7. 7

    Once thick enough, turn off the heat

  8. 8

    Add the ginger pieces, and few drops of sesame oil. mix well

  9. 9

    Transfer into serving bowls

  10. 10

    Garnish with chopped green onions,few drops of soy sauce and a dash of pepper if needed

  11. 11

    Serve immediately and enjoy!
