Ingredients

  1. 1 cuprice (about 200 grams)
  2. 1 cupsplit yellow moong dal, hulled (about 200 grams)
  3. 1large onion, finely chopped
  4. 1large potato, cut into pieces
  5. 1/2 cupgreen peas (about 75 grams)
  6. 6-7garlic cloves, finely chopped
  7. 1small piece ginger, grated
  8. 1 tablespoonfinely chopped green garlic
  9. 1large tomato, finely chopped
  10. 1green chili, finely chopped
  11. 4 tablespoonsoil
  12. 1 teaspooncumin seeds
  13. 1 pinchasafoetida (hing)
  14. 1 teaspoonturmeric powder
  15. 1 tablespoonred chili powder
  16. 1/2 teaspoongaram masala
  17. as neededChopped cilantro,
  18. as neededGhee,
  19. Salt, to taste

Cooking Instructions

    Rinse the rice and dal, then add them to a pressure cooker with salt, turmeric, potatoes, green peas, and 4 cups water. Cook until soft and mushy.

    Heat oil in a pan. Add asafoetida and cumin seeds, and sauté. Add ginger and garlic, and sauté for 1 minute. Add onion and sauté for another minute. Add green garlic and sauté briefly.

    Add tomato, green chili, salt, turmeric, and garam masala. Mix well and cook until the oil separates.

    Add 1/2 to 1 cup water and bring to a boil. Add the cooked khichdi, mix well, and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in chopped cilantro.

    Drizzle ghee over the hot khichdi and serve immediately.
