Hamburg Curry Rice

A simple dish that's easy to make, even for beginners, using equipment available in a condo. Normally, I don't eat vegetables, so I use boiled onions instead. (You can make the hamburger, curry, and rice simultaneously for speed.)
Hamburg Curry Rice
A simple dish that's easy to make, even for beginners, using equipment available in a condo. Normally, I don't eat vegetables, so I use boiled onions instead. (You can make the hamburger, curry, and rice simultaneously for speed.)
Steps
- 1
Cook the rice first. Once done, serve it on a plate.
- 2
Cut the onion in half. Coarsely chop one half and slice the other half into strips. Set aside.
- 3
Heat a pan on high heat, add 1 tablespoon of oil, and sauté the coarsely chopped onion until translucent. Remove and set aside.
- 4
Mix the ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, and coarsely chopped onion. Season with salt and pepper. Combine until smooth, then shape into patties, flattening slightly. (I added cheese in the center.)
- 5
Heat a pan over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of oil, and place the patties in the pan. Sear until both sides are golden brown (the inside doesn't need to be cooked yet).
- 6
Once both sides are seared, add a little water to the pan and cover. Let it cook until the water evaporates and the inside is cooked (about 5 minutes).
- 7
Test by inserting a toothpick into the patty and removing it. Press gently with a spatula; if the juice runs clear, it's done. Place the hamburger on the serving plate (the same plate as the rice).
- 8
Boil 1 cup of water, add the onion (and other desired vegetables), and cook until soft.
- 9
Add the curry roux block, breaking it up and stirring until fully dissolved and smooth. (You can enhance the flavor with chili powder and honey.)
- 10
Simmer until the desired thickness is reached, then turn off the heat. Pour the curry over the hamburger.
- 11
Optionally, garnish with additional vegetables and serve.
