Heat the butter in a large non-stick pan

Peel the onion and chop it in half

Place the onion halves in the pan for a couple of minutes to brown their bottoms

Add the plum tomatoes plus a pinch of salt
- 5
Bring to a low simmer and heat for around 45 minutes, stirring and squishing the tomatoes with a wooden spoon
- 6
Throw the onions away
- 7
Serve with pasta of your choice (I think linguine or spaghetti works best)
