Chai Kahwa: For Colds

At my home in India, we make this beverage when someone has a cold, or is feeling ill due to cold weather. We don't have it every day, but the spices and honey warm your body and give you energy. I got some almond powder, so I tried making it.

●If you don't have almond flour for baking, grind up almonds in a food processor or in a mortar.
●If you don't want tea, just omit the tea leaves. You can use green tea instead of black tea too.
●You can add 1 whole clove instead of powdered cloves. Recipe by Plabar

Steps

  1. 1

Take the outer shell off the cardamon pods, and lightly crush the black seeds. You can just add them uncrushed to the pan.

  2. 2

In 200 ml of water, bring a mixture of the cinnamon, cardamon and clove to a boil. When it comes to a boil, turn the heat down to low and simmer for another 2 minutes or so.

  3. 3

Add the tea bag, and simmer for another 2 minutes or so to extract the tea. You can just use the spices and omit the tea for the same effect.

  4. 4

While the tea is simmering, prepare a mug and put the almond powder in it.

  5. 5

Strain the tea into the mug.

  6. 6

Add the honey and mix. I recommend adding a generous amount (I added 2 tablespoons worth in the photo).

  7. 7

Mix well and it's done. This is called Kahwa in India.
