Wash masoor dal and keep soaking for 15 minutes
Wash rice and keep aside seperately - 2
In a large vessel or pressure cooker heat oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing. Then add onions and curry leaves. Saute well.
Add tomatoes, salt, turmeric powder and dal.
Cover and cook for 5 minutes if Cooking in a vessel. - 3
Add rice, water and then cover and cook till the dal and rice have cooked well.
If using a pressure cooker, cook with 2 whistles and simmer for 5 minutes on low flame. Once the cooker is cooled down completely and pressure is released, open the cooker and add coriander leaves. Serve hot with a dallop of ghee.
