Ingredients

1 Hour
6-8 servings
  • 1 CupSplit Red Lentils
  • 1 CupWhole Milk
  • 1Medium White Onion (Diced)
  • 1 can(796ml/28 fl oz) diced tomatoes (San Marzano preferably)
  • 1Vegetable Bouillon Cube
  • 2 TbspCanola Oil
  • 1 TbspMinced Garlic (~ 3 cloves)
  • 1 TbspGinger Paste
  • 1 TbspRed Chili Flakes
  • 1 TbspBrown Sugar
  • 1 TbspCurry Powder
  • 1 TbspGaram Masala Powder
  • 1 TbspCoriander
  • 1 TbspBlack Pepper
  • 1 TbspSalt
  • 1 TbspHot Chili Powder
  • Green Onions (For Garnish)

    Prep by dicing the white onions and green onions. Rinse the split red lentils in a colander until the water runs clear.

  2. 2

    Heat a large coverable pan over medium heat. Once warmed add the canola oil.

  3. 3

    Add the diced onions and sauté for 5-10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add the sugar, salt and spices. Toast for one minute to release their flavours

  5. 5

    Add the diced tomatoes, bouillon cube and lentils into the pan. Stir until thoroughly mixed.

  6. 6

    Bring the heat to medium low. Cover the pan and let simmer for 20 minutes.

  7. 7

    Add the milk and thoroughly mix in. Cover the pan and let simmer for 5 minutes.

  8. 8

    Remove pan from the heat and let sit covered for 5-10 minutes to cool.

  9. 9

    Serve the Dahl over rice with green onions sprinkled over top.
