Dhaba Style Urad Chana Dal

Ingredients

  1. 1 cupblack urad dal, soaked for 30 minutes
  2. 1/2 cupchana dal, soaked for 30 minutes
  3. 4 clovesgarlic, finely chopped
  4. 2 tablespoonsghee
  5. 1/2 teaspooncumin seeds
  6. 1/4 teaspoonasafoetida
  7. 1/4 teaspoonturmeric powder
  8. 2green chilies, finely chopped
  9. Grated ginger as needed (about 1 teaspoon)
  10. Salt to taste
  11. 1/2 teaspoonred chili powder
  12. 1/2 teaspoongaram masala powder
  13. 2black cardamom pods
  14. 1/4 teaspoonamchur (dried mango powder)
  15. 1 teaspoonbutter

Cooking Instructions

    First, put both dals in a pressure cooker, add turmeric and salt, and enough water. Mix everything and cook on the stove for 5 to 6 whistles.

    Now, heat ghee in a pan and add asafoetida, cumin seeds, garlic, green chilies, black cardamom, and ginger. Sauté until golden. Add red chili powder and sauté again, then add the boiled dal and cook well.

    Add garam masala and amchur, and cook a little more.

    Add butter and serve the dal. Our hot Dhaba Style Urad Chana Dal is ready to be served with roti, naan, or rice. It tastes very delicious.
