Muesli breakfast bars Muesli breakfast bars
The original breakfast cereal called muesli — a German word meaning "mixture" — combined rolled oats with nuts and fruit.I am addicted to these, and so is everyone I give them to. Although they're quick to throw together, they do take nearly an 20 min to bake, so what I suggest is, make a batch at the weekend and then you will have the oaty, chewy bars ready and waiting for those days when you have to snatch breakfast on the hoof.recipe inspired by:Vegan Food and Living/September 2017 Cook Eat and Travel -
Almond, Cranberry & Pear Bircher Muesli (vegan) Almond, Cranberry & Pear Bircher Muesli (vegan)
Soaking oats overnight in juice or milk, then adding fruit (and optional yogurt) in the morning gives you this delicious healthy breakfast. I believe it was invented by a Swiss nutritionist in the early twentieth century, when breakfast was still important to keeping you healthy Celeste -
A Low Calorie Snack: Adzuki Bean and Okara Mochi Cakes A Low Calorie Snack: Adzuki Bean and Okara Mochi Cakes
These are great for when you want to add a lot of fiber to your diet.If you over-cook the mochi, they will go from being chewy to being hard! They will retain their texture when cooled, but if you let them sit for some time, they may harden. In that case, wrap in plastic and lightly heat in the microwave. Recipe by Humpty 6 cookpad.japan -
Smoothie boost for good mornings Smoothie boost for good mornings
Bananas last in the freezer forever, and not just for banana bread: I freeze slightly overripe bananas and blend them in this fav smoothie.Tip: If you have a food processor, make a batch of minced ginger to last months by adding handfuls of the fresh root (no need to peel, promise!) with a squeeze of lemon, and store what you won’t use in a week on parchment paper in an airtight container in your freezer. Almost every morning for me starts with a healthy bowl of fresh fruit, oats and yogurt. It gives me all the energy I need to start my day and is so tasty I sometimes have it even more than once per day! If you want to make something quick, healthy and very delicious for your morning, then do try this easy recipe. If you don't have all the fruit I used for this bowl, feel free to use whatever you have. Make sure to tell me if you like it by leaving me a comment and I would love to see all your beautiful photos as well. Antonia -
Easy granola for healthy breakfasts Easy granola for healthy breakfasts
I have been making granola for years now (actually I just noticed I shared a recipe here almost 10 years ago when I started 😊) and by now I think I have really mastered the best possible version in terms of taste and texture. Here is the recipe I usually stick to these days, although of course if you have other nuts or seeds or dried fruit you can just throw them in and mix and match until you create the taste that best suits you. I have put the measurements I more or less follow but again, you can add more or less of anything. I have been on a bit of a get fitter and healthier streak for the past year, and I know lots of people say you should stick to protein-heavy breakfasts at my age. But I believe in the power of listening to your body and getting maximum enjoyment from meals, and in the mornings mine says "Sweet and healthy please 😋", so I usually have a portion of this granola with kefir or yoghurt and some fresh seasonal fruit and that helps me to kick off the day with both high energy and great enjoyment. Oaty Breakfast smoothie Oaty Breakfast smoothie
Slightly heavier smoothies can be great if you've got a packed morning ahead.A few weeks back, I finally took the plunge and ordered a NutriBullet. After seeing so many tempting instagram snaps and Pinterest recipes, I couldn't resist. About the same time, the Almond Board of California got in touch with me to ask if I'd like to take their 21-day Snack Happy Challenge (http://www.almonds.co.uk/snack-happy-challenge). The stars had aligned perfectly.I've been snacking on a handful of almonds every day this month, and including them in my favourite smoothie recipes. Why almonds?• A handful of almonds (30g) provide approximately 65% of your daily requirement of vitamin E.• Almonds are a high source of fibre, are packed with healthy, unsaturated fats and are a natural source of protein.• Almonds are rich in calcium, which is needed for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth.• Almonds are a high source of magnesium, which contributes to reducing tiredness and fatigue.• Almonds provide linoleic acid, which contributes to maintaining normal cholesterol levels.• Just a handful of these noble nuts is all you need to up your daily nutrient intake. Pop them in your handbag to snack on-the-go in your moments of need. Lottie Storey
